This weekly update is intended to provide base level data for more holistic research into the rebuilding of the security and governance structures of post-Assad Syria. This week saw major arrest campaigns against regime era criminals across the country. In a continuation of a months-long trend since the start of summer, the operations targeted senior regime officers and Sunni militia members. At least eight different operations were conducted in Aleppo, Hama, Latakia, and Damascus resulting in dozens of men being arrested.
There was little violence this week. A Shia man was killed in western Homs while guarding farming equipment and two Sunni men were killed in Hama City in apparent revenge or dispute-driven killings. Meanwhile, security forces conducted arrests across the country against men accused of murder, drug trafficking, theft, and impersonation of security forces.
