The region between Lebanon and Tartous City is filled with flourishing farms and coastal resorts and is perhaps the most isolated part of Syria from the war. Far from any battlefields or military operations, tens of thousands of IDPs moved here over the past 14 years. These displaced Syrians, a mix of all sects, arrived to a region with a long history of inter-sect relations.
There are two major towns on the coast between Lebanon and Tartous, al-Mintar and Hamadiyah. I recently visited al-Mintar to learn more about its history and the experiences of inter-sect relations during and after the revolution. Following is an overview of the town based on those interviews.
